Eliza Wright Mixed Media Wood Sorrel
A small, delicate woodland flower with a characteristic "shamrock-style" leaf, this portrait is based on plants we saw growing in Kilmarie woods in Spring. The preferred habit seemed to be in the middle of clumps of moss which had grown on logs and dead trees. The background is painted silk.
This was one of my first attempts at freestyle embroidery and I hadn't yet discovered 'double-sided'adhesive fabric. Thus the sorrel's flowers and leaves are a little untidy, as I struggled to control the fraying silk! I love the colours though, the hand-dyed piece of silk seems to work as a perfect foil for the flower and moss.
