Eliza Wright Mixed Media Flowstone
No plants! This is an impression of one of our local caves which is well known for its flowstone. Once there were dramatic stalactites and stalagmites as well, but most were removed years ago by Victorian tourists and of course will take thousands of years to grow back. For this reason the pictures owes a lot to my imagination!
The background is hand-painted silk treated with salt. This is a rather haphazard method of painting, since you can never predict exactly how it's going to turn out. The best way to work is to do a large piece with no particular design in mind and just see what happens! I had also become a little more adventurous and bought some beads, which are ideal for depicting droplets of water.
